Ransom Old Tom Gin
About Ransom Old Tom Gin
A gin for those who want to explore and experience gin as it was first intended.
Sweeter and less botanically-driven than the most popular gin flavor profiles of today. Ransom’s Old Tom Gin is crafted in the style that gin was crafted during the pre-Prohibition era when many of our most beloved, iconic cocktails were invented. This exciting bottle betters our understanding of the way these classic drinks were meant to taste, and it’s delicious in its own right.
The production process shares similarities with that of whiskey’s, so it’s also an excellent gin to experiment with for the whiskey devoted.
Tasting Notes
Lovely malt and fruit mix with a spicy slightly sweet tail to it. Lots of weight and mouthfeel to it. Luscious orange, citrus and spice blend. While sweet not as sweet as one would think from the old literature. Mild tingling on the lips and tongue. Very clean distillation and wonderful blending. Lovely, long lingering finish with lots of malt, fruit, spices leather and a touch of tobacco. – Chris Carlsson, Spirits Review
Suggested Serves
- Tom Collins. Riff on that iconic drink with a basil syrup and basil garnish twist.
Production Notes
Its subtle maltiness comes from the use of a base wort of malted barley, combined with an infusion of botanicals in high proof corn spirits. The final distillation is run through an alambic pot still in order to preserve the maximum amount of aromatics, flavor and body. Then it’s aged in wine barrels to give it its distinctive caramel color.
This is the first domestic Old Tom Gin to be released since Prohibition. Only the “heart of the hearts” (the very best portion of distillate) is retained for this special bottling.
