Xicaru – the Zapotec word for beautiful – reflects the desire to share a traditionally produced mezcal that is truly beautiful, approachable and distinct. Small batches of Xicaru Mezcal are made using time-honored methods in Matatlán, Oaxaca. Xicaru Silver 102° honors the tradition of master mezcaleros, who prize the concentrated characteristics of high-proof mezcals. Selecting a smaller cut from the heart of the distillate gives Xicaru Silver 102° a bolder, more robust flavor.
Tasting Notes for Xicaru Silver 102 Mezcal
The crisp, high proof of Xicaru Silver 102° asserts itself in all aspects, dominating on the nose and palate before gradually softening to the rich, smoky and vegetal notes of traditionally-produced, artisanal mezcal. The finish is warm and lasting.
Suggested Serves
- Xicaru Spice of Life
- 1 ½ oz Xicaru Silver 102°
- ½ oz cinnamon liqueur (Becherovka, Goldschläger, Fireball) or 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- ½ oz lime juice
- ¾ oz grapefruit juice
- ¾ oz agave
- Method: Shake and strain over fresh ice into a rocks glass. Garnish with a grapefruit wedge.
- Xicaru Martini
- 2 oz Xicaru Silver 102°
- 2 dashes orange bitters
- 1 oz bianco vermouth
- Method: Stir and serve up with a lime peel or grapefruit peel garnish
- Xicaru Last Word
- ¾ oz Xicaru Silver 102°
- ¾ oz maraschino liqueur
- ¾ oz lime juice
- ¾ oz yellow chartreuse
- Method: Combine all, shake and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a cherry and/or lime wheel.
Production Notes
Xicaru Silver 102° differs from Xicaru Silver in the way it is distilled. A narrower cut is taken from the heart, where the alcohol, smoke and maguey are more concentrated. Xicaru Silver and Xicaru Silver 102° both utilize traditional mezcal production methods passed down from generation to generation.
